this is a somewhat odd thing that is happening to me. I have suspicions on what the cause is but am not sure. What happens is I try and boot a Biostar M7VKB Motherboard with an athlon 900 and voodoo3 (with NOTHING else attached) with a 300W athlon approved Power supply. what happens is it counts memory, loads a sort of graphical thing that detects hard drives etc, and it gets a little further and locks up completely. wheter i get into the bios or not, usually when i reboot i get a bios checksum error or something of the sort. The athlon has a Golden Orb hs/fan BTW.
Does anyone have an idea why it would be locking up? I have moved the hs/fan around a bit so i dont think its an overheat. One thing i read in a recent thread was golden orb + athlon can mean a burned out cpu. I visually inspeced the cpu and there was no discoloration on the core hoever on the bottom i noticed slight browning and the barcode was slightly lifted from the chips casing. could this be the problem? could the cpu be burned? This is my main suspicion. my other suspicion is that its my houses rather old wiring creating a poor voltage situation.
I could really use some input on this.
Thanks - UUGH
