Ok guys, i have a retail AMD Athlon 750 Socket A Processor, and the retail fan is just TOO DARNED LOUD. so my question is, is it safe to remove the CPU Fan & just keep the HEATSINK on? I do NO OVERCLOCKING and NO GAMING, just play movies & Music.

Thanks

I'd have to say that it's too risky...just keep the fan on. I had a nasty experience with a cpu without enough cooling protection, so I'm not going to make that mistake again.

the retail fan is too loud? you may see if you can get a new hsf that is quieter, but if you leave it fanless .. you could hope it would make it for 30-40 seconds .. but its not likely .. good luck ..

without the fan it's not gonna be fried. if you take out the heatsink then it will be fried.

the temp though will be around 90C, i saw my friend running athlon 650@800mhz and the fan fell off
the system was still stable for about 10 hours until when he look at the temp reading and start lookind around.
we estimate it 10 hours because he still look at the mobo in the morning and he was sure that the fan is still in there
and we found out about 9 hours later at night. it still run stable though when we find out, so we're not sure until how long it will stay alive, so back to the thread: i'm not recomend it. use a quiter fan might be a good idea.

Get a gc68 hsf from svcompucycle or galaxy monster from Nexfan, same thing. Nice and quiet with the stock fan, virtually silent with a 80mm L1a panaflo if you wnat it even quieter.

These will fit most boards, provided there are no really tall capacitors near the socket. Had to do a little surgery to get one to fit a soyo sy-k7vta......
