Yeah it'll be fine. I'd suggest quality 3200DDR if you don't plan to overclock and quality 3500DDR if you do.

PC2100 ram works fine with an AMD 64 cpu? I didn't know that. I thought DDR 400 was the minimum requirement.

It'll work, but it'll be slow.

But would it run faster than my current setup?

AMD XP1900+/ Shuttle Ak32L motherboard / 1 gig pc2100 Crucial memory.

Im thinking of getting a 3000+ amd64+ but I just can't afford the memory right now.

If you sell off your old stuff you should be able to afford the RAM. Truthfully though, if you can I'd wait for the socket situation to settle so you have a better upgrade path, but the 3000+ would be faster than your 1900+.

Thanks for all of the info. What socket situation are you talking about? I've been out of the loop for quite some time.

The current Athlon64s use Socket 754, and the Opterons and Athlon64 FXs use Socket 940. The A64 and FX will transition to Socket 939 sometime in late spring or early summer.
