I'm on the fence right now. $500 is way too much for a processor in my world but I know new technology has a premium. Do you think that it'll be sub$300 within a few months or is that a while off? Not sure if I should just get a cheapie socket 939 chip nor or just wait it out.

few months? no. X2's are targeted at prosumers. I'd imagine you wouldn't see X2's drop to more mainstream prices until near the end of the year.

For sub $300, probably a long time. Prices will settle but newer speed bumps on the X2's will drive it down. Speed bumps are usually once a quarter and if they also decide to not to end the low end X2 while a newer one comes out and shifts every thing down.

If Intel's dual core processor's become very cheap the X2 will drop as well. My guess will be $200 - $300 range by next summer.

Intel already has sub-$300 dual core, right? So, prices tend to change dramatically every quarter, right? Makes sense. Thanks guys.

I can say with 100% confidence that there will be a sub $300 X2 processor within 5 years. :D hehe Seriously though, I think when AMD starts releasing 2.0 and 1.8 GHz X2's you'll see those below $300... I don't think the 2.2 GHz X2 will be under $300 anytime this year.

The 820 is the 260 range at newegg...unfortunately it sucks in performance at a piss-slow 2.8ghz, meaning most apps which are single threaded will be at performance levels of 2 plus years ago...

Definite a good price point but you get all the neagtives with it...have to buy new DDR2 ram, slow performance versus X2 and single cores in single threaded apps, heat (basic prescott isues), etc...

I personally think AMD is making a mistake and hsould hav eprice the 4200+ in the low 400's...4400+ at low 500's and so on....

You can tell the demand is not very high for the Intel chips cause there is little price gouging going on!! LOL!!!!

holy crap. When I get my 4200+/4400+ I hope to push that sucker to 2.4 and watch it fly. I think it'll be a pretty nice improvement over a 3.2c for everything.

I would hope for 2.5-2.6ghz since many others are getting it....2.4ghz at default vcore I think is realistic for most....

So is every comparison to X2's;) Every single site the cheapest x2 demolishes 820's even beats 840's ...see sig

It will be attainable when they release a slower speed grade. I'm still going to wait until an X2 of some form or another hits $200. Don't know how long that will take, but my 2.6 Venice says I've got time to wait. I refuse to buy any computer component over $200.

:p

Yeah who does'nt want a lower price? But AMD knows 95% of us here would take a $220 1800Mhz X2 and make it a 5000+... Obvioulsy they have them and can make them since it's lower speeds but they a) don't want to undercut thier single core varients like 4000 on down which are cheaper b) knows lots of us will pay $500-$1000 for CPU and won't if a $220 model is out there.

Compared to what? I'd rather have a 3.4 northwood or a 3500 venice for that price... you'd be hard presseed to find more than 10% of benchmarks where 820 beats them... not to mention it's using 1.2 jiggawatts of electricity.

I agree fatty4ksu is a moron, and I am sick of his trolling.
