Athlon 64 Speed and Prices

So far, I'm mostly hearing only about the 3200+. I thought there were other speeds. Does anyone know what speeds they are? And the prices for each? I want buy a system with an A64 board with the cheapest A64 chip and upgrade in a year or 2 to faster ones when the prices are much cheaper.

I believe they said the A64 would launch at 2.0 Ghz... so I'm assuming the 3200+ would be 2.0 Ghz. Nobody can be 100% sure about the prices... as always, it will vary between retailers.

I remember reading a few weeks back about A64's that are 1.4ghz, 1.6ghz, and 1.8ghz being released also along with the 2.0ghz. I wonder what happened to those cpu's.

Lr guy. U didint read that from a reputable source. There are 2 a64's. You plan to upgrade later you said and thats impossible with both of these. The 754 will be discontinued (3200+) and the fx will be replaced with the 939 pin a64 which is coming soon according to most people. That means with the 940, your only upgrade possibility is opteron which is obviously much more expensive and needs registered dimms.

I've seen a 2900+ mentioned in a couple of articles. Currently the 3200+ is running about $450-$500 at those places that are listing it for sale. That's in the ballpark of the current AthlonXP 3200+, which is a situation that may not remain much longer.

Then again, they know the SocketA owners are somewhat of a captive audience, unless they want to jump the ~$120-$200 barrier and get a new mobo as well. I guess we'll see how it plays out.

please use the search function as this has been discussed daily.....

I think Jeff is going to get tired answering all of these!!!😉
