I have had headaches over the past month with my new system. random Win XP blue screens of death, problems with audigy 2 (drivers updated), etc. I fumbled with my MSI K8T Neo pretty badly when I built the comp and am afraid I damaged it. I finally gave up today and ordered a MSI K8N Platinum.

btw, I have troubledshooted some, including memtest. pretty sure my memory is ok. anyway, some of the BSOD messages I have received include "machine check exception" and "kernel stack inpage error."

what I am wondering is the CPU could possibly be "defective." I assumed that if my CPU isnt dead on arrival, there isnt anything wrong with it. Is this assumption correct? Or could there potentially be a defect or problem with my athlon 64 3000?

if you get a BSOD,that means windows was able to write to its error logs and give specific reasons for the crashes. look through them.

k. btw, the error that led me to finally purchase a new mobo is that the system suddenly did not recognize my hard drive. I came out of the shower to find my computer in a boot loop.....went into the bios, bios didnt recognize any hard disks. reset CMOS jumper, bam the hard drive is recognized again...= (

hope the new mobo fixes all. what do you think?
