Athlon 64 Motherboards

I know this topic has been hit on already, but there have been quite a few new boards released lately, and I'm just getting more and more confused. They all seem to be fairly similiar, and I can't tell which one would be best.

I need it for an Athlon 64 3000+. I don't need one that's overly friendly for overclocking, since I have no plans to overclock really. I'd prefer a good-quality onboard sound and LAN, but I don't think I've seen a motherboard in this category that doesn't have those. I want something reliable, powerful, but nothing ridiculously expensive. So, what kinds of suggestions would the knowledgable members of the board have for me? I've looked at a few already (Chaintech, MSI, Asus, Abit, the new Foxconn) but I'm having difficulty seeing the difference.

Since top notch overclocking isn't needed, I'd suggest the Albatron K8X800 PROII $116 shipped It has everything you need, including the best audio solution available for A64. Since it uses the K8T800 chipset it gives full duplex 1600mhz HT capabilities and is a very good performer@stock speed.

anything with a K8T800 chipset is pretty good... until the NF3 250 comes out, (and is plentiful) the Vias are better.

After some exhaustive research, it seemed the Albatron was a good match. There were two problems however. One, I heard that the onboard audio you mentioned is only high quality if I have some sort of digital output. And in all likelihood, some of the games I'm looking at playing once I get the computer will require EAX, so likely I'm going to need a seperate soundcard anyway. Two, the Albatron isn't readily available in Canada it would seem.

So, now I'm on the search for a more popular motherboard. Onboard sound isn't such an issue, since I'll likely have to invest in a soundcard anyway. I was looking at a few options. One was the MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R, the other was an Asus K8V Deluxe, and finally a Chaintech VNF3-250, but I'll be damned if I can find out which one is better. Anyone offer some suggestions?

I'm going with the Chaintech VNF3-250 since it's cheap, good sound, and overclocking. Not to mention many recommendations.

The only reason I've been reluctant to go with the Chaintech was because it went with the nF3-250 rather than the (apparently) slightly better VIA K8T800. The ASRock K8S8X mentioned above looks quite impressive too, but went with a SiS 755 + SiS 964 chipset, which I'm not even remotely familiar with, and have no idea how it stacks up to the other two.

@stock speeds the SiS is very fast, but honestly none of the chipsets are far apart in performance because the memory controller is on the CPU now. If you have decided on using a pci audio card either the Chaintech or Asrock are great choices.
