Can anyone help me out with some information concerning the differences between these:

Athlon 64 Socket 754
Athlon 64 Socket 939
Athlon 64 FX Socket 939

I knwo the FX is the best but all of the CPU's are $200 greater than the regular Socket 939 Athlon 64.
Also, why did AMD make 2 sockets when the CPUs [are?] the same?

Have you checked out the Athlon64 4000+ processor?? That's a 939 pin with a price point damned close to the FX-55 chip... Best way to find out the differences, look on AMD's web site...

Socket 939 differs from socket 754 in that it supports dual channel. Dual channel gives it better the system better performance.

FX differs from the other chips in that the multiplier is unlocked. That is it. Multiplier is useful in overclocking. FX chips aren't worth buying at all. They have the same performance as the cheaper 939s with the same clockspeed and L2 cache.
