Athlon 64 CPU gray cover

This may be a stupid question, and if it is I apologize, but when applying thermal grease and a temperature indicator to my new Athlon 64 3200+, do I need to remove the gray core cover to tape down the thermal indicator and apply the grease that way, or could I just apply both on the gray core cover on the chip? By gray core cover I mean that gray metal thing that covers the entire top of the chip, and has the CPU specs written on it.

If I am supposed to remove it how should I go about doing it?

Don't remove that what you call "cover" (it's a heat spreader). Termal grease needs to be applyed to the top of this spreader (thin layer). About the thermal sensor...hmmm (don't place it between cpu and cooler, that would rise your CPU temperature - that thermal sensor doesn't conduct heat too good :shocked: ) Place it underneath the cpu.
