Athlon 64 - CG Stepping....

I was wondering if there is any way to be guaranteed a CG stepping for the A64 3200? I'm asking because it's quite annoying having paid extra money for ram that will do 2-3-2-6, when the C0 chip forces CAS 2.5. I know the performance increase would be negligible, but I hate having bought something less than a week again and have the old revision. :( Plus isn't there a difference in the cool n' quiet?

Yea they may not even be available yet...I'm not sure so I wanted to check with more knowledgable people. Well if I'm stuck with CAS 2.5 then this HyperX is going back for some of the PC3500-4000 variety

whoa whoa how are you stuck at cas 2.5 with your hyperx?

i'm running an a64 on a shuttle an50r and mine does 2-2-2-6 timings up to 250 mhz @ 3.4 vdimm volts.

very strange you can't boot up at cas 2. maybe it's a board/ram compatibility issue.

Yea my board has no way of changing the ram timings in the bios (current bios flash also). Under cpu-z my memory is showing 2.5-3-3-8 and I can't change it. Maybe I should just take this board back. I was considering the shuttle like you have, but I'm tempted to wait for the nf3 250. Of course who knows how long that will take.

So what is your opinion of the shuttle? Any problems or stability issues? I've heard it's a great overclocker also.

Isn't 3.4 volts A LOT of vdimm? :Q

hehehe.. it's a little excessive but since i'm up to 2.6 now and i can't get my ram to run 260 mhz w/o 3.5 volts or more, i've been using the 5:6 divider and running my ram at 218 mhz and a lot less vdimm voltage.

rumor at xtreme and even AT news has it that the nforce3 250 should be out soon! :) maybe by april so you can try to get by with what you have for now and then upgrade to the nf3 boards when they come out soon :)

i plan on trying a nf3 250 board as well.

Wanna be a guinea pig and see if you can find some of that Kingmax HardCore DDR500 stuff with the BGA chips in the article on the anandtech home page?

Been hard to stay away from A64, will have to wait until near the end of summer before I bite on a new system with more mature A64 hardware.

Anybody read that article about nf3 250 not including a pci/agp lock? :disgust:

Looks like I'll be getting that Shuttle and enjoying my setup for a little while.
