athlon 64 939 caches?

What exactly does cache do on the athlon 64 processor?....there 512k and then theres 4000 that is 1mb cache? Who needs a big cache and who doesnt?

The bigger cache will add performance as it stores the data most used by the processor. The L2 cache is must faster than the system memory and will allow for smoother performance. On an A64 the extra cache is equal to ~200mhz of speed

the 512kb extra cahce is not really 200mhz but amd does it to save themselves money and stuff, makes some difference but many say not 200mhz of difference
