Athlon 64 3400+ Mobile v. non-mobile

I just noticed that now is a mobile version of the 3400+, but the specs on NewEgg are the same as the non-mobile version. Does anyone know if this is accurate? If it is, then why would they give something a different name if its the same, and if its different, what are the differences?

I believe the only difference is the lack of an integrated head spreader. They run the same voltages and everything.

As for using lower multis...the desktop chips can do this as well w/ Cool N' Quiet.

The only differences I'm aware of is the mobile has PowerNow! but no IHS. The desktop/DTR chips use Cool?n?Quiet though I'm not certain if it's PowerNow! by any other name, or if more likely, there are subtle differences between the two.

the mobiles can take on more heat then the deskptop version, but performance wise, i think their the same.

Yes, but I've yet to see any but DTRs. Real low-voltage/power mobiles haven't hit yet, have they? It'd be cool if they have, but I don't see any at the egg (not that I wouldn't love a DTR notebook or anything...).

I only saw the DTR's on New Egg, but I saw Monarch had something listed as mobile, but gave no specs, so I wasnt sure if that was the DTR or something different. I was just checking.

formulav8, how is that A64 laptop working for you? I still havnt decided if i should go with a p4 or the A64 for my new laptop. I havnt seen anything performance wise with the A64 laptops.....

It is awesome. Tried the P4-M's and such. The Athlon was much spunkier. The Athlon64 lappy also has Radeon 9600 graphics. I can play Knights of the Old Repblic at the 1280x800 resolution. With 16xAF and 4X(never tried higher) AA. The speed is perfect. Picture Quality is very nice. I have no complaints about the Mobile Athlon64. It is even faster than my Desktop 😀. Also, I believe my cpu runs at 1.4v and not 1.5v. I will double check but I believe that is what I remember seeing it as. The only thing I will eventually upgrade is the HD. Put in a nice and fast 7200 rpm drive. It was definitely faster than the Centrino's and even the XP cpu's I tried out. At least to me is was. It was to my wife also though. I don't think you can go wrong with it. PM me if you have anymore questions. 🙂
