Got this in my inbox from Chris Tom of AMD Zone:

Hello,

You can now purchase the Athlon 64 3200+ for $499. This is the Socket 754 version of Hammer.

http://www.dealtime.com/dt-app/SE/KW-AMD%20ATHLON64%203200+%20(ada3200box)/FD-0/linkin_id-3033365/NS-1/GS.html

Of course what good is a CPU without a motherboard? Well there are a couple of VIA K8T800 based motherboard available for sale.

The Asus K8V Deluxe.

http://www2.dealtime.com/dt-app/SE/KW-Asustek%20ATX%20MBD%20754%20VIA%20K8T800%20/FD-0/linkin_id-3033365/NS-1/GS.html

And the MSI K8T NEO-FIS2R.

http://www2.dealtime.com/dt-app/SE/KW-MSI%20K8T%20NEO-FIS2R/FD-0/linkin_id-3033365/NS-1/GS.html

These are both enthusiast model boards, and just over $140 the MSI board is about $20 cheaper than the Asus.

So for about 30-50 bucks more than what a 3.2GHz P4 will run you an Athlon 64 and motherboard is available. That is not too bad of a deal in my book.

I never thought I'd ever say this for a NFS4 Post, but doesn't this belong in the Hot Deals forum?

Hmm that does not seem CHEAP to me. How long before we see chips in the 150$ range? A year? two years? 6 months?

You want $150 for a brand new top of the line CPU? The P3 3.2 is over $600. Maybe you should write to Intel and complain about their pricing. In fact, stop posting here and march around in front of Intel headquarters carrying a sign saying you want cheaper processors.

Nobody has any benchmarks or performance reviews for these CPU's except manifested ones with Opterons. How could they be for sale then when not even Anand has one?

Wait for the Benchmarks! I assume everyone in these forums would know better than to plop $500 on a processor that they don't know how it performs.

That is amazing!!!

I hope we see more retailers selling this chip like newegg.com etc., the price should drop even more by that time. I think I will hold off on my upgrade for now until more of these babies start showing up.

Only if the actual shipping product really benches faster than a P4 3.2.

I hope so, but no way I'll trust an AMD PrettyRidiculous "3200+" rating without proof, especially after the Barton's overrating.

And yet more :| grrrrs :| for nVidia, too busy cheating on benchmarks and lawyering eidos to bother getting their chipset for A64 out the door.

AMD has probably recalculated its PR rating since this is a brand new processor...and I'm sure that they are not stupid enough to have a repeat of what occured and that a 3200+ Athlon64 will be VERY competative with the P4c

Obviously we really don't know yet - but I don't see AMD pulling a Nvidia.

LIke you said, $30 more... I would opt for the 64...

It's still early... Another month and it will be a different story.
