Which DIMMs are you using? And how much do they cost?

my alivenf6g is currently running with just a single 2GB regular DDR2; my intention was to buy at least 1x4 or 2x2GB of those cheap high density rams "AMD only" from China, and use the current regular 2GB for my 775 board.

but it's really hard to find a good reference about those "high density memories" actually working well with my board (or any board to be honest).

Retested Athlon LE-1660 2.80GHz one last time (fastest single-thread AM2 processor), and it requires 1.200V vCore at 2.80GHz no overclock. So I put back 2850e that only needs 1.075V vCore at 2.33GHz overclock. :$

I see some new Samsung 2 x 4GB DDR2 6400 800 kits for $19.85 free shipping on ebay.

That seems like a good price to me and the brand, of course, is legit.
That's right. 8GB DDR2 kit is indeed only $19.99 shipped. That's the power of savings in AM2/AM3 DDR2/DDR3 combo board.

Samsung sticker shows they were made in June 2008 manufactured date (0816), so they may be legit.

I wonder if the Dell Optiplex 740 (AM2/AM2+) supports those?

P.S. I found out the Dell Optiplex 755 (LGA 775 that uses DDR2) supports 4GB DDR2 DIMMs for a total of 16GB. This reported here --> http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19296075, despite the manual stating the maximum RAM is 8GB (4 x 2GB).

Do you live on an island country somewhere? I'm just curious why you need to worry about desktop power consumption so much.

PC is placed in a tight-spot with very little ventilation around (stacked four straightly to the roof in one-line), so I can't have a CPU rated over 25W. Plus, the monitor only has VGA input left to put this as the other three HDMI inputs I have were already taken for newer sockets (FM2, LGA1150, and AM3+).

Logically, WHY?

Great deal on this Athlon 240 AM3 2.80GHz dual-core. This listing officially marks the first day for Athlon II X2 dual-cores with over 10 quantity available for $8.49 or less. CPU is overclockable up to 3.50GHz max on stock voltage.

Pair this CPU with ASRock N68C-GS4 FX board, and get yourself a nice 8GB DDR2 PC2-5300 (667 MHz) kit for as low as $17 shipped from China. These are overclockable up to 1000 MHz max (PC2-8500 or near), depending on quality of the RAM sticks.

In case anyone is concerned and freaked out on depreciation, this Athlon II X2 240 (it's a fairly decent processor for 2015, may I add) for $8.49 shipped will easily take care of you, and you will sleep better every night.
