Athlon 64 2600+ on the way?

I saw this over at AMDZone

According to this article, AMD is planning on releasing an Athlon 64 2600+. Looks like it will be clocked at 1.66Ghz and have 512k of L2 cache. What are your thoughts on this?

Depends on the price, could be a good deal though for ~100$ 🙂. 3000+ = 2.0, 2800+ = 1.8, 2600+ = 1.66.... whats up with that? Something funny with A64 scaling maybe?

You're dreaming if you think it'll hit at $100. This will be a $140-150 product. The rumor is it will be clocked at 1.60Ghz in line with the rest of the range.

1.6Ghz would probably be more logical... for the price I would guess around 150$ considering the prices of the other A64s just above it in the product line. Does anyone have any idea when this CPU will be released in retail form?

why bother spending $150 on 2Ghz....just do the tried and true XP-M 2500+ oc'ed to 2.5Ghz.

Cause for some people its not about all out speed, others want to be ready for 64bit if it ever arrives. Plus I just like the huge feature lists on the 64bit boards myself. But I must admit the cheapness of the mobile XP is still very tempting.

ready for 64 bit? you mean have a lot of ram or something, or do you mean be ready for the 64 bit slowdown?

Actually apparently code will need to have a trigger written in to start 64-Bit mode. So some have presumed that more cache is better so this isn't an impact so much (if it proves to be at all).
