I'm still having problems running Unreal. I did a clean Win98 SE install. Then, I installed the AMD AGP drivers (latest ones). I did not install any of the Via drivers at all.
I installed Unreal, and it locks up. I have a:
K7 500Mhz (not overclocked)
K7M Mobo
Diamond Viper V770 (TNT2 Ultra)
128 Meg Micron Ram set to CAS3
AMD approved PS (ANTEC 303X)
I installed Unreal on my K6-3 system and it runs w/o a hitch (in s/w rendering mode). The K6-3 only has a Matrox Mystique 220 card in it.
I've tried patching Unreal. I installed the 219 patch, tried it, didn't work. Then I installed the 220 patch, tried it, didn't work. Finally tried the 225f patch, still no joy.
I can get into the game in Safe Mode. I've tried going to the advanced options and setting the rendering to D3D and no joy. I've tried OGL, still no fun.
I'm stumped. Does Unreal just hate my V770 card? I've tried the 3.53 drivers, 3.68 drivers and even the latest 5.22 drivers.
I've even underclocked the vid card using Powerstrip, still no fun.
Somehow Anand got it to work in his vid card reviews.
Could I have some screwed up Unreal CD? Is there anyway to tell which version CD it is?
On the Unreal website (www.unreal.com), there's some info regarding versions of the game that patches may/may not be compatible with. I'm not sure what version I have (can't tell from the CD). Any ideas on this?
I'd appreciate any help.
