The difference is
I run my 1700 XP @ 2.4 Ghz 192fsb x 12.5 multi = 2400 mine at stock settings would be 133 x 11 = 1466 while the 2700XP has stock settings of 166 x 13 = 2166. So my front side bus is highier than a 2700XP but the multiplier is lower. Basically I paid 50 bucks for mine as it is a highly Overclockable chip and it was cheaper than a 2700XP at the time I think 2700's are still in the $100 dollar range I don't know though. The 2700XP is Overclockable too though and should roughly get to the same speed as mine.

A WD Raptor is made by Western Digital it runs a 10000 RPM has a SATA interface (much smaller than IDE ) to connect to the mother board and has 8MB of cache. it is currently the fastest desktop hard drive available unless you count some of the 15000 RPM SCSI drives.

You Overclock by chooseing a mother board that allows you to minipulate the FSB ( Fron Side Bus) and the multiplier which makes up the frequency of the CPU.

2700 doesn't overclock well at all.

I can only run it at 190x11.5

how would i install a WD Hard drive?
makes sure you have a motherboard capable of a SATA connection and then plug it in.

go into your bios, change fsb to 166 and multiplier to 13

Which motherboard do you have at the moment ?

ASUS A7N8X-E mainboard

So if i change it to 166 and 13multiplier, that won't effect my system right? as in become unstable or anything like that. and also, by changing the numbers will it make the system faster? i think right now the fsb is at 133 and i have option to change it to 200. can i find the multiplier option in the same window?

All you can do is try. Nobody can say for sure whether your system will be stable if you overclock it. All they can do is give suggestions for you to try. If it's not stable, you can always lower the settings until you find a spot where it is stable.

However, since your processor isn't even running at the stock speed, bumping it to 166fsb won't be overclocking. Right now, you are underclocked. Set it to 166 and boot back up. After that works out, then worry about overclocking.

And yes, the clock multiplier will be under the fsb setting in the bios.

What do I care? It's your machine. If you do want to see how far it will OC, I would do a search on this forum and learn how to reset your bios in case it won't boot at all after you bump it to 200fsb. If it does seem to run ok at 200, you still ought to monitor the temp of the chip to make sure it isn't going to overheat. I don't know what kind of cooling you're running. My 2500+ runs with a 200 fsb at 42C. If it started hitting 50C or above I'd get a little nervous.

HELP!!!
I was playing Sim City 4 and my computer shut down. Just yesterday i switched my 133fsb to 166fsb, do you think that caused it?
