Athlon 2400+ Mobile running at 800MHz????

I just bought a new system, I have a Albatron KX18D Pro motherboard and an Athlon XP 2400 Mobile processor. I hooked everything up for the first time, and loaded windows, and when I boot windows, it says my system clock speed is 800Mhz instead of the 1.83ghz it should be, and the 800 mhz agrees with what first shows up when you first turn on the computer. We checked the jumper settings, which leave 1 and 2 shorted for 133/155/200, and clip off for 100. The pins are shorted as they should be. We are only using the default settings in the bios. I also wanted to update the bios, but I can't figure out how to flash the bios, because it won't let me run the downloaded file in windows, and i can't find an option to flash the bios from within the bios. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It's supposed to run at 800MHz when you're not stressing out the CPU. It's because of AMD's PowerNow! It'll scale up if you're doing something CPU intensive.

If you don't like speedstep, change your profile from Mobile/Laptop to something else.

all mobile chips, you need a mobo that could set the multiplier as well. if that mobo can't support multiplier adjustments, you're out of luck. get a mobo that does, or get a non mobile cpu

Yup. I can't believe they still make jumper-configured mobo's anyway. There may be some way you can mod the bridges on the chip itself to get a multiplier for it but I have no idea how.

well for some reason the default the board gave me was 133x6. so i'm thinking 133x13.5 would give me as close to the stock speed (1.79Ghz) as i can get. am i right here?

don't worry i have the same board and i'm using it with a mobile 2600+. when i first installed my cpu my board did the same thing. it's just a matter of changing the multiplier or cpu ratio, fsb and vcore in the bios. you can run it at stock speeds but can overclock your cpu as well as long as you know what you're doing.
