athlon 2100xp or pentium 2.2ghz

i live in Bangladesh. currently using a pc with
pentium III 550mmx
intel 440 bx2 motherboard
geforce2mx 32mb agp

i want to upgrade my pc. but my budget is quite slim. i am going for

athlon 2100xp
msi kt4 ultra motherboard
pc2100 ddr 256mb ram
MSI geforce 4mx 440 tv out 64mb ddr

should i stick to it or go for a intel pentium 4 based system. if pentium4 is better what should be the processor, motherboard and ram configuration. my budget is 25000tk (about 400us$).

please suggest me with possible upgrades, keeping in mind my budget. should i wait few more months?
 
They will offer comparable performance. The AMD system will probably be a bit cheaper so I would go with it.

I have an XP2200+ and just built my mom an XP2000+ and have been quite happy with them.

DAMNIT! I just wanna flame the living shite out of this guy, but I just can't. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. If you plan on overclocking, then there is an argument to be made for getting a P4 1.6 or 1.8 GHz proc that will O/C to like 2.4GHz levels with only air cooling, but if you have any kind of a budget, I'd definitely suggest AMD. Same performance; less price.
 
I would go with the AthlonXP, I have the 2100+ and it has made me very happy. I love my computer. You can see my system by clicking on the link in my sig. My main computer (with the AthlonXP 2100+) is right up there in performance with my P4 2.5Ghz machine.
 
Maybe save a little cash and go with MSI KT3 board. It will save you some cash and be just as fast as the KT4 with that pc2100 ram.
 
No idea what the pricing models in Bangladesh are, or their inventory turnover, or if you even plan to overclock, so this may not be a viable solution for you. I would maybe hold out 'til after X-mas to see if any of the T-Bred B's are actually appearing in lower clock frequencies (Inquirer and Digitimes are saying any day now). Then I'd get a 2100+ T-bred B and OC the begeezus out of it, or even better, get an XP 1700/1800+ T-bred B and OC the begeezus out of it and save yourself some bux for a better video card. But again, I'm parlaying the OCer/gamer mentality, which might not suit your needs. Oh yah, not considering nForce2 due to availability? I would recommend that over the KT400, as the KT400A is right around the corner.

Nothing worse than buying a brand spanking new Via mobo that has just been retro-fitted with a northbridge that works 🙁 Any KT266 owner will tell you how that feels.
