you are going to have to give us far more details than "can't install xp pro."
That could mean you don't know how to boot from a cd
it could mean that you're getting read errors
it could mean locking
it could mean anything
we need more information.
still not enough data. Telling us that it can't boot is meaningless.
Do you get any error messages?
Does it lock
What do you see on the screen?
It could be that you have the CDROM set as your primary boot so it installs find but don't have IDE0 set at all.
Need more info.
You must have something else working against you. When I installed XP Pro on my 1 GHz Athlon machine, I was running a Radeon 7200. I later upgraded to 8500. Installing was no problem with the 7200 - and I did not do a "clean" install - but an upgrade from ME.
You might try a dose of patience. That first boot can take forever with some hardware setups. I would wait at least 5 minutes before I called it a failure.
