Athlon 1800+ Temperature

I bought a used computer off of a guy and it has an athlon 1800+ and some sort of volcano fan on it. I'm running motherboard monitor or whatever it's called and it says taht the CPU is idling at around 51 degrees C, is that too hot? I don't think the CPU has been overclocked or anything...it says it's running at 1.53 MHz.

The original "Palomino" core XP's did run a bit hot, so you most likely have one of those. It's not too hot, but it is a little higher than desirable.

My 1800+ Palomino idles at about the same temp, and I have no stability problems at all, even after an hour of UT2K3.

Allright, cool! I haven't had any stability problems but I was just wondering.

So I guess this chip sux for if I ever wanted to get into overclocking right?

no true way to tell if it will oc very well or not. best indications of that are the steppings on the core, and trial and error. but if you do want to oc, and you have to raise the voltage, some better cooling would be a good idea.
