Athlon 1600+ Temps?

First off, "hello" to you all from a new member :)

I've recently rebuilt my comp (from a celly 366) to an AthlonXP based machine. I'm a little unfamiliar with the new tech, having been out-of-touch with the "scene" for the last couple years - I'm wondering what the acceptable temperature ranges for the XP's are?

My proc (1600+) runs at 51-53c at idle. I though this was fairly high, but seems to be within spec according to AMD. Under heavy load (2+ hours of gaming, number crunching) the proc only gets up to around 55-56c. It has never exceeded that temperature. Airflow throughout my Inwin Q500 is pretty good, I achieve 30-33c case temp at an ambient temp of 72c (hey, I'm in Florida).

My question is whether or not these temperatures seem optimal? I'd like to see what some other XP owners (especially those on ABIT boards) are seeing - please post!

Some relevant specs:

Athlon XP 1600+ (default voltage, no OC) w/ retail HSF & Thermal Pad
Abit KR7A-133
256MB Crucial DDR @ 2.5 (all settings AUTO or "By SPD")
300w ATX Supply

I also have an XP1600+ and my temps are not near that high.

Specs:

Athlon XP1600+@1.54ghz(1800+)
AK31A
256MB Crucial DDR
Fong-Kai 603 Case
300 watt PS
CoolerMaster HCC-002 HSF w/6800 RPM fan

I also have 1 intake fan in the front of the case and another one besides the PS fan as an exhaust fan.
Idle temps are in the 42-43c range.
Load temps are in the 45-46c range.

If you do not have extra fans in your case I suggest you add some. Make sure you get a good airflow through the case.
You may also want to get another HSF other than the stock one. I have heard very good things abouth the Thermalright SK-6 and definately get some Arctic Silver compound to apply between the CPU and the HSF.

Oh yeah..Welcome to the forums :)

Remember that comparing against the same motherboard, and adjusting for ambient case temp is the only reasonable comparison you can make, unfortunately.

For the Kr7a motherboards, and a retail heatsink, your temps are basically in line with the other temps i've seen. Maybe you can add a few case fans, but it isn't absolutely necessary.

KR7A-Raid133/XP1700+/Taisol CGK742092B HSF/5- 80mm case fans

Case temp: 21C
CPU loaded: 42C

It runs seti 24/7, so no idle temp is readily available.

Your 20C delta seems right- mine is right around the same.

I generally see CPU temps around 32c idle and maybe 38c or so at the highest when under load from gaming. I have an Alpha PAL8045 (farking huge heatsink) and fan on the processor, an 8cm intake at the front of the case (InWin case with large slots for airflow in the front..very nice) and a 10cm exhaust fan on the back of the case near the processor. It's a tad loud, but I like everything nice and cool.

EDIT- I have an ABIT KG7 mobo, by the way.
