the athlon 1600 at newegg is 53 dollars - I have the Ecs ks5a but can flash the bios to the "unofficial" bios that does allow different settings providing potential for overclocking.

Can anyone the me if this current chip
On Sale Now! AMD Athlon 1600+/266 FSB XP PROCESSOR CPU - OEM/((( AGOIA Cores)))

is this chip capable of overclocking on my motherboard if I use the "unofficial" bios and if so does it still require that I use that car window defroster technique?

I should mention I am using 2 256 micron ddr - 2100 - lower version I dont think it will do more

Thanks

Those cpus (AGOIA cores) have been consistently hitting at least 166 fsb at default voltage. I know the latest K7S5A overclocking bios has at least a 143/143, 147/147, 150/150 and 166/166 setting in it. If your DDR can handle any of those fsb speeds, you should have absolutely no problem whatsoever in overclocking that chip just using the fsb. If your RAM can't handle those speeds, your best bet is to unlock the cpu and raise the multiplier so you can keep your fsb lower. :)
