Athlon 1.2's at 95C?

I've been trying to find out what a 1200C is rated for temp wise.. I've found two places saying it'll handle up to 95C .. I've also seen a few people here say anything over 60 is suicide..

One of the places is here: http://www.cpuscorecard.com/cpuprices/ak7.htm
The other is here: http://www.heatsink-guide.com/maxtemp.htm

Mine's running at 46C now (mostly idle, mp3s and a few other apps) .. It gets up around 65-68C with load (q3a, bnw) .. So whats the deal? I can't get another fan for a few days at least, so I'm going to have to stick with this orb for a while. Even then, I haven't had any problems with it, and I'm probably just going to pick up some 80mm fans..
(Power supplies are a cheap source of 80mm fans! :p) .. I don't want to fry it though .. and I can't find anything on AMD's site about temperature..

Your problem is your cooler is crap. It is not really the best for 1Ghz+ speeds, especially hot running Athlons. Your chip is nearly at the 70C mark, which is too high IMO. I don't mind mine running up to about 60C, but 68C I would panic. Having said that, is everything fine and stable?

Your chip is indeed rated for up to 95C *at the die temperature* - the Socket A reading is never accurate, and can be anything up to 20C lower than the internal core temp. So if we take the worse case scenario your chip is actually running up to nearly 90C - which is too close to the limit for comfort.

Try and get it down below 60C, below 55C preferable.

Yea, it's perectly stable .. i'd like the temp as low as possible, but like I said I can't get another fan for a few days.

I think for a 1.2GHz chip you definitely need something better than an orb. But I've got a 1200C as well, and for some reason (maybe its the mobo temp sensors or something) the temps at idle are pretty high, even at default speed

You need to get your temp down. I don't think it's going to bake itself any time soon, but that will definatly decrease the life of the thing.
