I have just bought a MSI K7t pro2-a (MS-6330) motherboard and a athlon 1.2 Ghz.
but the processor is running at 900 Mhz or thats what it is showing.
do i have to adjust any settings in the bios.
i am new to this athlons.
Please help
thanks

your front side bus is set at 100 mhz, it needs to be set at 133. there will either be an option in the BIOS to do this or a jumber on the motherboard. it should be explained in the manual.

Yes there is an options in bois
Clock by slight Adjust : 100 (defautl)
and
CPU Clock Ratio : Default
if i change it from 100 to 133 the systen wont boot
i have to clear the cmos to boot
and the manual says
Chipset
VIA KT 133
- FSB @200 Mhz
Thanks

Jojopapar;

If its a KT133, not a KT133a, it probably will not boot at 133, even though there is a bios setting for it. It just never ran well above 110 mhz or so.

Options:

Replace the board with a more current KT133a, KT266, SIS735, KT266a or Nforce board.

Replace your processor with one designed for 100 mhz bus.

Unlock your processor with the "pencil trick". Set the multiplier to 12x.

Live with 900 Mhz.

Hope this helps;

Doug

thanks for the reply.
Does this mean that the processor is @266 FSB and not at @200 FSB?
The processor is already unclocked
i can change the multiplier upto 12.5
but the temperature is reaching upto 70C
is it ok if i run at that temp ??
and if i live with 900mhz does that effect the life of the processor?.
Thanks

<< Does this mean that the processor is @266 FSB and not at @200 FSB? >>

That would be the likely cause for it to run exactly 25% slow.

<< and if i live with 900mhz does that effect the life of the processor?. >>

Should be happy as a clam at 900 mhz.

Seems high. I would check out the Cases and cooling forum for more info. I am not the expert on temps.

Technically you can run a AMD at 70c, though I would not reccomend it. Seriously though, as long as you are not getting random OS errors or reboots, then it should be fine at that test. I would go to like zdnet.com and download a simple program like CPUchecker that runs your CPU at 100% for as long as you have it active. It is good for seeing if you are stable. It is very unlikly that you will fry the CPU before the comp crashes, in fact, the only real way to fry them is to start your comp with no HSF installed, though I know you would never do that 🙂 Thats just my $.02
