AFter doing some research on the Athlon re: overclocking, I was ready. I opened my home built PC, undid the fan/heatsink, prepared to connect the L1 bridges on the chip with a pencil. After opening it up, and examining it carefully with a magnifying glass, I saw that all of my L1 bridges were connected. However, when I opened the BIOS (Everthing is set to Jumperfree design, so I can do everything from the BIOS) Everthing was as before - I could modify the FSB, but the clock multiplyer was still set to 9.0 - and it was grayed out so I couldn't change it. I am using an Asus A7A266 MBD, 512 MB RAM, Athlon 1.2GHz, and a 40GB HD.

I already tried upgrading the BIOS to the latest version - the multiplier is still grayed out...

Any solutions?

I've never seen a 1.2GHZ chip that was multiplier locked, the four I've had the pleasure of dealing with have all been unlocked. Is there a jumper setting on the motherboard that alows multiplier adjustment?

Asus has a JEN jumper, look in the manual, that lets you switch between bios control and jumper control.
