Athletic SO vs Mechanically Inclined SO - Choose One!

Which would you prefer

  • Athletically active SO (Outdoors type - hikes, plays sports, etc)

  • Mechanically inclined SO (Can fix minor things around the house, has her own hammer and power drill)

  • You don't get another choice so quit your complaining

I was contemplating this yesterday - if I had to do it over again would I prefer an athletic wife who doesn't know much about tools/cars/fixing things or a woman who knows the difference between a hammer and a wrench but doesn't know a score in football is a TD or how to dribble a basketball.

When I was younger I always thought the athletic wife/SO would be awesome - lots of outdoor activities, shoot some hoops together etc.

But now that I'm older, when I ask the wife for a wrench, I wish she wouldn't bring be a pair of wire snips

BTW, wife is neither athletically inclined nor mechanically inclined, so I didn't get either of my wishes. :'(

My wife isn't that athletic but she brought much needed channel locks to the relationship. I melted.

Asking for a wrench and her giving you a "pair of wire snips"...
Seems more like you should have chosen one with a functioning brain. :(

My wife is neither, but she's more athletic than mechanically inclined. What she is, however, is educated and successful in business.

Actually, when I think of it, she is somewhat athletically inclined - just not outdoorsy.

My wife played D1 soccer and also has a MBA and another Masters in something else. Now she is too uppity to cook and iron.

That's like spotting a unicorn.

I think its pretty much the same with guys too, if you're asking the females the same question.

You can have the outdoorsman / athletic type, they don't seem to be so interested in garage cars and power tools but they know what it is.

Hell look at the garage posters and that guy who got "owned" by his wife on that car site for examples. Many of the garage guys aren't exactly the brainyengineer types.

My wife has common sense so I'll settle for that. She's pretty intuitively mechanically inclined, hell maybe more so than me (of course a forum is the only place I'll admit that). She knows what tools are what, and what to use them for. Not afraid of getting dirty either.
She's athletic enough, but not so much in a team sport way--she did karate for years, when we met she was *very* flexible and could kick over my head *rawr*. Understanding everything about football/baseball/hockey/etc isn't her thing. She mostly hates those sports anyway for the incompetent refereeing and crappy GM's.

Works for me :)

last so was a good mix of both, she wasn't stupid when it came to mechanical things, and she was decently athletic, she stayed nice and fit, which was great for me lol...

My wife routinely places in top 3 in her age divisions in road races and loves to use my compound mitre saw and pneumatic air nailer.
