Atheros bets on powerline networking

I can see this being useful for some applications, however im sure the same people who pitched a fit over BBoPL will have something to say about this

Just something I saw a few weeks ago but IEEE just ratified the first draft BBoPL standard up to 100Mbps. Looks like things are silently moving forward on this. Competition is good for all.

At the end when the dust settles WIFI main use would be for Laptops and on the Road (and it should we this way).

The whole Wireless Home thingy (especially High Audio and video Streaming) would just go away.

Why? Cause in the near future all the High tech devices that would be put into the Fridge, Whasing Machine, Coffee Maker, etc. can not go Wireless and thier natural control usuage would be through powerline Network.

The security, speed, and lack of flexibility of HPNA would be finally resolved and the Ethernet would use the Power line too.

That said, do not run and buy Powerline now, cause most of the current offers rerally "Sux".

you have any idea of how much heat powerline products generate?

what about when they are hit direct by lighting? you can't plug them into a surge suppressor i guess that could expose your nic and anything connected.

The quality powerline nics use optical isolation that is good to 15KV . Better than most surge suppressors.
