Awesome deal, I believe the original MSRP on these was $499 or $599, when they came out. Since they are made by Canadian company, this same unit runs for $649 CAN on www.futureshop.com . Outstanding quality and 5 year warranty from manufacturer. Great reviews and winner of several awards. Check www.audioreview.com and www.ecoustics.com for reviews. The store also had Athena subs and bookshelf speakers on sale as well.

Here's a info on manufacturer's website:

Enjoy!

I have 3 Athena Audition series speakers out in my living room. They're amazing speakers. I haven't heard the MKII, but if its quality is anything like the Audition series (the subwoofer looks like an Audition series sub), they'll blow your mind for $300.

These speakers sound and look like ass. IMO

People hear "Athena" and the placebo effect takes over.

Based on what criteria do they sound like ass? Did you listen to them in the acoustically perfect Best Buy environment or in someones home? These speakers sound great, especially for the price. What speakers are you comparing them to?

As for their appearance, yeah they are fugly, but I care about the sound. My bose AM-6 were pretty to look at, but compared to the MKII with the sub they sound like tin cans.

I hate the term "for the price." Though I do understand this is a necessary evil.

Remember, speakers are very individual in the reason that all of us have a different/favored thing we like from our sonic friends. I prefer a full bottom and decent upper midrange(warm sound), someone else might want very accurate treble (bright sound). Also some of us are lucky and have dedicated hometheater rooms, others have a hometheater in a box, others just their computer speakers.

So we are all coming from different audio backgrounds. So respect someone elses opinion.

I have listened to the athena's and they are not nearly as good as the reference class, but they are not nearly as expensive. I would not want them in my hometheater room, but for my computer or bed room. These would be quite nice.

Good sound(not great sound) for the price.
