Does anyone have experience (good or bad) with Athena power supplies. I would really like to hear about their reliability, especially their high end power supplies. Are these reliable? Comparable to Antec or Enermax? Thanks ind advance.

I'd say that those PSUs are an unknown quantity at this point - too new on the market. I would say they are probably better built (more expensively) than the equivalent in the Sparkle budget line or Athenatech would probably put them in their cases. But they use the ATX-123GU series from Sparkle and an even cheaper one from another mfr instead in most of their cases.

.bh.
p.s. Those Athena PSUs may actually be made by a PSU maker with a better-known rep. Look up the UL file number (e.g. E123456), if there is one, to find out. If there is no UL/RU mark and no file no., then that would be reason enough for me to stay away.bh.
. Looks like there are at least two mfrs that actually make the Athena PSUs. One appears to be JGE (never heard of). The UL file numbers in the pix I've seen are too small to read and too fuzzy to read when enlarged.

well to be honest i took the time, and finally realized, that these psu-s have something to in common with the ocz-s. at least they're being built in the same factory.
proof:
this picture was taken from newegg
Athena Power 550W EPS12V Power Supply
from the back/below of the 550w athena psu. you can cleary see 4 labels - 3 of them black almost circle sized, and 1 white long one- i guess that's the serial number on it.
now you can see the same pattern on the ocz 600w psu here
OCZ Powerstream 600W
Even the 2 80mm fans are placed (almost) to face each other.
But then again i might be wrong, if so, please somebody coeecrt me. :D

Thank you so much for the work you put in to help me. I did have a chance to hold one in my hand and it was nice and heavy. Seemed well made overall, but ofcourse I had no way of checking out how well it would run over time. I think we are going to buy a few of these, since we can get a very good deal from them and see how they do.

It has been mentioned around the ATF several times that the OCZ are made by Topower. Omar's findings would tend to put the Kaibash on that...

"OCZ are made by Topower"
yeah, actually that would make sense, here's another proof for that, from Dan and a pictura containing the suspicious label, although this time 2 black circle, 1 long black & the 1 long white w/ numbers on it in a row.
Topower 580W psu
Also the adjustable rails (for ocz & athena),and "longer than usual" design, seem to all be a feature by these psu-s.

Sorry, I'm slipping... Welcome to the ATForums Omar and Cow.

. Just a little tip. Adding yet another Power Supply thread just now might get one drawn and quartered... ;) Most of the brands mentioned so far have been discussed ad infinitum in other threads. Spankings are occasionally administered to those who post here without doing their "homework" (thread searches).

I have a 500W made by A+GPB (Athena). The power supply I have is meant for dual processors. For over two years, I have had no problems with it. It has 28A on the 12volt rail. It's been a solid power supply so far.

This is what the ps is powering:

3000+ Newcastle @2400mhz
Radeon 9800pro
2X74GB WD Raptors (Raid 0)
S754 DFI Lan Party UT NForce 3
Audigy 2zs platinum
1 DVD-R/RW
1 DVD-Rom
1 Floppy Drive
5 fans (1 cpu and 4 case)

The real test for this PS will be when I upgrade my 9800 pro to a 6800GT. I expect no problems though. I would say go ahead and buy it. At the price they sell for, its great bang for your buck.
