I have the ability to buy a 550 watt one for 50 bucks... are these PSU's any good?

Athena Power or Athenatech?

Athenatech are cheaper units like Okia, Deer or Powmax. It was probably pulled from an Athenatech case. I wouldn't give someone $1 for one.

Athena Power is the in house brand of A+GPB. Better quality. About the level of FSP's Saga series or a Topower. But you can get a new one for $80, so $50 isn't much of a deal.

I have been using this Athena Power AP-P4ATX50F12 500W Power Supply (which is a rebadged Topower P5 unit) for over a year and a half now(24/7), and it has been as stable as a rock.

jonhnyGURU is the guy you want to listen to on this topic!! His work and PS research is widely posted on AT and he has his fingers right on the pulse of PS's.
