Exactly.

This is why taxpayers have turned against the teacher's union. They are unwilling to make sacrifices in difficult times. Just today I saw that Philadelphia teachers were upset because they had to start paying for part of their health benefits. What planet do these people live on? Instead of making the needed sacrifices they are willing to take the city to court. The same thing happened in NJ. They were demanding raises while the state and country were suffering. Is it any wonder that people have turned against unions?

Shut up with your political bullshit.

It's hypocritical, and it should be. The difference in quality of life for a 20% pay cut from a $5MM salary vs. a $60k salary is huge.

If Kobe does take a reduced salary and Lake MGMT does use it to better the team Kobe can get more endorsements and bonuses for getting into the playoffs and championship. But that is not a guarantee. But it could be to his advantage to take a pay cut.

Its not really the same at all. Winning isn't necessarily the goal for sports franchises, its making money in the form of entertainment. People watch the Lakers because of Kobe, so taking less money doesn't make any sense. The reason Kobe can't get free agents is because star players don't want to play with him. Apparently he's an ahole. If Kobe took less it wouldn't really attract any of the high profile free agents, because the problem is him, not his salary.

Personally, I don't think any athlete should take less than they are worth. If the organization is willing to pay, then they are worth it. More times than not they will get screwed if they take less like Brady did, and the outlier is the Spurs.

When people take less money its usually because they have to, not cause they want to. Or they do it to reduce their responsibilities. I don't think you would find many cases were regular working class people want to take less money to do the same job, just so their employer can benefit.

Of course. But every company still has a cap for job roles. A bonus is extra, and has nothing to do with a cap. That's like saying your cap is your gross pay, instead of your net pay.

They can promote you and put you into a higher pay grade. And bonuses are not always extra but part of the total compensation package. Keep on comparing Apples vs Oranges.
