Athlon 64FX is simply faster overall then the P4EE. That is a fact. The P4EE does win some things, but P4EE is only just slightly faster then 3.2Ghz P4, and way too expensive for my tastes. Look at reviews from anandtech, hardocp, fireingsquad and you will aggree that the Athlon 64FX 51 is the best desktop cpu to have at the moment.

Indeed, and at the very least, the price difference between the 2 is almost $200, more than enough to offset and mobo price variations, and still make the FX worthwhile even if it was a more even 50/50 win/loss situation.

If you will be gaming the EE is the way to go. If not then the FX is the best choice.

i think you have that backwards. The Athlon 64FX's BEST power is in the games. It outshines every other cpu in games.

Welcome to the AT fourms AnotherGuy. To actually answer your question, I would choose the Athlon64 over the P4 EE, but only because I prefer AMD.

Can't really go wrong with either platform. They are both blazing fast at the moment. I would price out each platform(mobo, proc, and ram) and go with the more affordable one.

No, I don't have it backwards. According the the shootout from Maximum PC, the EE outdid the FX51 by a hair in their gaming tests using UT2003, Jedi Outcast, and Quake III.

They are definitely pretty neck and neck. I would also recommend going with the system that is cheaper. Here in Canada the EE is really expensive and the Athlon 64 is a fair bit cheaper. However the regular P4 3.2 is still a fair bit cheaper than the Athlon 64 and may provide the best bang for the buck.
