I think they look great, and make for great cruisers.

What do I need to watch out for if I decide to pick one up?

The 327CI v12 tend to catch fire.

Particularly the BOSCHE Fuel System and the hose from the Tank to the Main Pump and Pickup in the tank.

BOSCHE Injectors are easy to clean and will last forever.

You don't want your Fuel pump to cavitate or run dry as it will shrapnel your Injectors with brass splinters

Maintenance and parts gonna be expensive... but it's one nice ride otherwise.

It's not worth the trouble unless you have a mechanic friend. There's a reason why only black people buy these things. Hint: they're not good with money and care about looks.
If you're looking for the prestige, you're better off with same year merc or bimmer. Plus, do you really want to own a luxury car from Tata Motors?

Do you have personal experience with these cars? Because, a few people in ATG are also against BMWs, Mercs, etc... and never owned one. I just thought they would make for great cruisers. I have two BMWs, just want something comfy, maybe for the occasional jaunts to Vegas, or sitting in traffic.

I can do a lot of work myself, and yes, I do have friends that own shops. And, I can afford the maintenance, that's why I ask what do I need to look out for to see if the efforts will be worth it.

Something like this is kinda cool http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/cto/5139094628.html. And no, I see far more white people driving these than blacks.

Edit: regarding Tata, they purchased the company in 2008, hence the 2008 year cutoff. Although I wouldn't mind having me an F-Type convertible.

Here in Texas, you're only gonna see blacks driving used Jags, Mercs, Caddys, and Buicks, but never Honda, Lexus, Bmw, or Audi.

That is a rather clean XJ you point out. I mean if you have the connections and experience, more power to you. I'm not knocking your choice of car per say, but rather trying to get you to think twice about it. :) Then again, #yolo?

Edit: F-type conv? :drools; Very beautiful car. :)

But that's it though, I need to know what I should be thinking twice about. Other than "blacks are driving them", that's not a legitimate reason to deter me from getting one.

So, have you owned one? Know anyone that owned one that have problems? If so, what specific problems? I know the Jags of old don't have a stellar reputation, but I thought their dependability score was up when Ford acquired them.

Here's another example, albeit a bit older http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/ctd/5155636542.html

That is a nice looking car. Sorry, I have no personal experience with modern Jags. Traditionally, they are horribly unreliable though.

Chronic fluid leaks and electronics seem to be the weak areas on older cars.

I had a 2003 X-Type for quite a few years. As far as maintenance goes expect to pay 3-4 times for OEM parts compared to a domestic (not sure how this compares to BMW's though). Things like alignments were specialized so you had to go to the dealer. Even a set of brake pads from the dealer were $179 (just for the front pads) without labor but I was able to find aftermarket ones for around 60. So if you do your own maintenance (brakes, fluid changes, basic parts replacement) you can get aftermarket goods for a decent price

FUD. Jag is still an independent division that still has a decent carryover from Ford.
I've been eyeing an XFR as a replacement for my LS. Good old DEW98 platform.
