...or other vehicles. ATG gets a lot of threads from people asking about what cars to get, so I thought this would be useful. Post some ATG homemade reviews of some card, trucks, and other vehicles you've personally got a chance to drive.

Since I used to work for a rental company, I've probably tried more cars than a lot of people here. Here's some of my recent whips I've been driving around in.

2012 Toyota Yaris Hatchback
Model driven: 5-door LE with convenience package, automatic transmission

The Yaris falls under my category of pleasant surprises. When they first came in stock, I wasn't expecting much more than a cramped econobox. That said, this is actually one of the nicest Toyotas I've driven.

The interior is is comfortable and nicely laid out. Not a lot has changed from the older Yaris or Corolla, but it does look a bit more modernized, though still a tad utilitarian. The cloth seats are comfy and the back had quite a bit of room for its size. Though there's not tons of leg room, it will sit an average height adult. The cargo compartment has plenty of space for a small family, while the seats fold to provide double the room for bigger items.

Interior features are a bit utilitarian. The radio looks like it's from 1995. Though it does offer Bluetooth connectivity. Plus, it's not integrated into the dash, so it should be straightforward to upgrade the sound system. As for options, the car comes with power everything (except seats), cruise control, keyless entry and heated mirrors. The latter of which should be standard in all cars IMO.

Handling is where this car shines. It's a small car and drives like one. It's very maneuverable with a nice, small turn radius. The 1.5L engine is very responsive in city driving conditions. You'd swear it had more than a paltry 107hp. It's a lot of fun to whip through city traffic and tight spaces in this car. The one downside is highway driving. It really struggles when pushing it past 100km/h, making overtaking harry at times. I feel that the automatic transmission should really be five speed. These fours are getting a bit on the dated side.

For exterior styling, I like how the car looks. Not too bold but not as bland as some of Toyota's other cars. It's a very light vehicle. The doors especially have to be slammed shut because the don't close properly on their own.

Overall, I like this car a lot. It's not going to win any races, but it's one of the solidest and most reliable econoboxes I've driven in a while.
