I was aiming for the 64MB version, too, due to the faster memory (and all the glowing online previews).
However, at ATACOM, the 128MB Golden Sample version is only $30 more, and in the case of Gainward, they've made *both* versions with 4ns RAM.
Of course, every dollar counts, so both cards should be taken at face value, but most of the online previews were talking about a 128MB nVidia reference with slower RAM.
I'm actually surprised that Gainward's design decision hasn't gotten more press. I belive most of the popular vendors, such as visiontek, will be offering a 128MB version with slower RAM (and as a result closer to the $199 MSRP mentioned in the reference previews). I paid $222 for the Gainward 128MB Ti4200 Golden Sample, but in looking at the features and specs of this card, it was *still* a huge price/performance leader.
I've tried to be careful to not "crap on a thread", I just want everyone shopping for a Ti4200 to pay attention to the memory speed. Like I said, I was waiting on the 64MB version until I saw the specs on the Gainward 128MB version.
(... can you believe we're now talking about 128MB of VIDEO RAM?!? ... in a "budget" card? ... unbelievable )
