ATA66 round cables?

I bought a second hard drive, and now i think i need to make my ata66 cable a little more compact. is there a problem with that? cross-talk issues? 80 conductor cable behaves different than standart (40 conductor)? any suggestion? guides/how-tos?

TIA

I've seem some of these in Tokyo computer stores, and they're nice. I'm going to pick a set up tomorrow, so I'll take note of the brands and get back to you. Until then...😉

A friend of mine just got 2 round ATA/100 cables and a round floppy cable from here and they are working fine. (on sale right now too) They seem to be very well made. He did opt for the long cables as they regular length ones wouldn't reach the top of his case.

thats all great, but i ccant afford the 40$ overseas shipping... thats why i was aking about the possibility of making my own round cables by utting and taping regular one. but i'm not sure if thats ok with 80 conductor cables and too chicken to try (its too expensive).
can someone help?

well usualy no, but round cables are kewl!

i think i do need them since my case is clutched and my gorb is suffocating in the ide cable.
i have a slocket, so the cpu fan is turned to the front of the case (and the hard drives...) and not to the side, thats why i have these airflow problems.

I found plenty of rounded ATA-100 cables in Akihabara (Tokyo's electronics district) today. They ranged from ~$4 to ~$25 for 1:2 sets of standard length. The nicest ones I saw look like the one's that CoolTech linked to above. The expensive ones looked very sturdy and well engineered, so I'll spend the extra cash for the peace of mind.

i'm a case mod freak so i made my own...just fold 'em up to a decent size depending on personal preferences and wrap 'em up with electrical tape...nice-n-easy!

they were ata100 cable which may have helped a bit, but i just folded them...i tried cutting them, but even with a sharp knife and using ata66 i was cutting through the insulation into the wires too often to do it in something to use...

They can be cut and work OK. Just do not try and cut down the whole length. Make a little cut and then pull the wires apart the rest of the way. This should cause it to tear in the thin material between the wires, and then less likely to cut the wires.

well no one is that dumb to even try to cut full length... but with those thin wires, you need a steady hand not to damage it, and i'm a fraid i will. so i'll try rounding them without cutting (as soon as nundub finishes. thats 9 more hours. but The Matrix's worth it 😉)
