I installed a 18" single device round cable on a Abit BE6-II motherboard on the Hpt370 Channel2 controller. The controller's bios detects the drive (Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM), but Windows 98SE doesn't see it. If I put the drive back on the intel ATA33 controller channel1 it works fine. Any ideas why this might happen?

Did you install the HighPoint Controller's drivers in Win98SE?

I do have the primary (only drive) drive connected to the primary channel of the Hpt370 controller and Windows 98SE is accessing it. However, I will verify these drivers have been installed.

Thanks!

Just check and the software is installed. However, when I look at the drive being detected in the Hpt Bios it doesn't assign a drive letter. My hard drive gets assigned C: and it gets nothing. Any thoughts?

Your highpoint controller wasnt meant to be used to with legacy drives such as CD-ROMs or DVD-ROMS. Move it back to INTEL controller and keep them there.

Only put you hard drives there like they tell you in the manual.

Thanks! Anyone know if ATA33 or lower cables exist (single device, silver mess)?

Once again, thanks!
