Hi I've got a tbird 800, with asus a7v mobo running winme. I downloaded the latest promise drivers (build25) and have bios version 1.003. My problem is that when i run sandra it benchmarks my maxtor ata100 hdd (7200rpm, 30gig) at a speed that is less than a udma66 drive. It detects my drive in the promise bios detect as dma5. What could be the problem?

I heard that some drives need to be ata100 enabled. Is maxtor one of these?

Do you have another drive hooked on the same chain? If you have an older drive, say an ATA66 drive, it will drop the ATA100 down to that level. Also, the thing you said about Maxtor's rings a bell. Some of their ATA66's can be upgraded to ATA100, but there are very few models like this. But these are sold as ATA66, and the upgrade is a bonus. If you bought that as a ATA100, then either you were lied to or that's not the case. Later!
