Hello,

Quick question for everyone. Are there any differences in performance between an add on ATA 100 controller versus one that's built in to a motherboard? Also, if I am running an ATA 100 hard drive at ATA 33, how much noticeable performance am I loosing?

Thanks

Currently I don't believe there are any drives that can sustain a 66+ MB/s sustained data transfer rate so I doubt a ATA/100 controller at this point is nessicary. Right now I believe current drives are around the 45-50MB/s rate. So generally if you're on a ATA/66 controller you don't have to sweat, if you're on a ATA/33, you might be loosing some performance if you have of of those newer higher density platter drives.
