ATA100 on Asus A7v and overclocking

Abit on the confsuion I'm having here. Can I use up till 8 drives on both my ATA66 and ATA100 ports??

Another problem is, each time I try to boot from the ATA100 port on my Quantum LM, the system hangs right after the windows startup screen and before my desktop turns up. The bios settings are correct and the pormise bios detects my drive. When using the ATA66 port, I installed the promise drivers and it detected as as scsi port but with an exclamation mark (!) on it saying it's not functional?? Why is it so? I'm still using the old bios (1002, I think).

How high can you guys overclock your T-bird 800?? Just curious. Do I have to modify the bridges on my CPU to change the CPU multiplier or I can do it straight from the dip switches?? I got my T-bird 800 to 840Mhz at 1.75V. Note: the ATA100 problem has nothing to do with this as I tried it at 800Mhz. 😉

yes you can have upto 8 IDE devices on the 4 IDE connectors. but you will only get ATA/66 if you use the proper cables. Your system is not hanging, it's the ATA/100 scanning for drives, this should be fixed in an upcoming bios. Install everything on your ata/33 side with the ata/33 cable, and remove the ones with ! mark and re-install it. Birds run hotter and faster so they are closer to their limits unlike the durons. you may get 100Mhz or something, if you have an T-800 you may get 900 or 950 if your lucky but heat will be your enemy. If you want to see how my setup went see below.
