ATA100 in Win2K

Ok, I've got SP1, 4.29 drivers, and the ata100 hotfix all installed. My IBM DTLA 30gb still shows up as a SCSI and I can't break 17000 on a good day in Sandra. Any thoughts?

IBM DTLA 7200 30gb + ASUS A7V + Win2K SP1 = No go

sandra isnt a good program to compare hard drives. hdtach isnt good either but its better. sandra, as stated, is only good to compare scores using the same system.. =) the scsi thing is normal. i think. just the dma channel drivers.

silly question but is your IBM DTLA 7200 30gb on the promise controller ata 100 ide?
the m/board ide only supports ata66!

Heh...yeah, it's plugged into the ata100 slot. So are my cd/dvd drives. The busmaster is installed, but gives no way to change from pio to dma or even an indication of which is currently running 🙁 Sigh.

the promise driver is programmed to use all devices in their most optimal configuration. Therefore, if DMA is available forthat particular device, the driver will use it.

My HDTach scores in Win98 were unbelievably high. I had a 10ms seektime and 59mbps read burst speed. It also said that there was 0% CPU usage. I thought that was kind of weird. Now that I'm using Win2k and NTFS, I have a 13.5ms seektime and a 49mbps read burst speed. CPU usage is up to around 9% I think. My SiSoft scores have also gone down a lot. I used to get 22000 on my ATA/100 drive (even though my motherboard only supports ATA/66). Now it gets about 18000.
My two hard drives are a WD 30GB ATA/100 and a WD 15.3GB ATA/100, both are 7200 RPM drives. I just downloaded the Microsoft patch for ATA/100 hoping for a little extra performance from the ATA/100 drive.

You can check by using the VIA IDETool, which come with the VIA 4.29 drivers.

I tried that. It doesn't give me the option to change anything because all my drives are "scsi." Now if only I had a scsi card....

All my stuff show up as SCSI also (even though they are all IDE), and I'm still able to change them with the VIA IDETool.

Yeah, I forgot you?re using the 4.29. I?m using the 4.28, though I know the VIA IDE Tool is in the 4.29 because I downloaded it and looked.

Anyway, hope you find your problem.
