Are IDE ATA66 and ATA100 cables the same thing? They both have 80 wires and I've got a 66 lying around and I want to use it with my ATA100 HDD... Will it work ok, or will I see a speed decrease?

Asked a few "computer guys" at Best Buy and got two different answers...

Yes...they are the same.

People who are trying to tell you that an ATA66 cable is different to an ATA100 cable and charging you more for an ATA100 cable are ripping people off.

or compusa, they're selling it for around $20.
that price is about half of the price of a cheapy mb with ATA66/100 cable bundled,
or a retail 20G 5400rpm maxtor hd (by hot deal) with ATA66/100 cable bundled.
you better buy one of the above and give the mb or harddisk to us, we'll reimburse the price minus $20.
