ATA HDD: Speed without the NOISE

HGST 180GXP. Enough said.

Use IAA to set it to minimum acoustic output. Ignore access time benchmarks. 🙂 (I'm talking from a pure desktop use standpoint)

The drive is frickin' silent. Faster than 'cuda, and just as "silent". WDC JB performance without the noise! It does on occasion make the sound of a woman screaming in an alley at distance, but that is not very noticeable and seems to abate once the drive reaches operating temperature.

Do you guys wear your hard drives on your heads like ear muffs 😕 🙂 I have a bunch of WD and Maxtor 120gig 2/8mb caches...my computer is on the ground, roughly 3 feet from my head, and I can't hear a single one of them.

Horse pucky.

Run a Cuda IV, Hitachi 180GXP, or even a DM+9 with AAM/IAA enabled for awhile, then tell me that you can't hear your WD scream.

Unless, of course, your CPU/PSU/case fans are just drowning them out and you don't notice.
