ATA Cable cause corruption?

I have had one HD fail this year. I now have a brand new WD80GB, which is taking a long time to detect and I received a disk access error during the boot up of my OS, after a fresh format and re-install.

The cable is blue and is of the rounded genre, ATA100. I am do unmentionable things to this cable and the manufacturer if this is the case, as this will have caused me several days of f-ing troubleshooting & headaches, on top of $450 worth of HD's. ARGH!!!

Please help me...

TIA

Do you have any other cables to test the hard drive with? What exactly have you done to the cable?

I guess I could use one my ATA33 cables, that is all I have today. Of course this happens on a Sunday. 🙁

I have not done anything to any cables. Can they just become crap over time?

Can they actually cause damage to a HD, if they have not been modified in any way since they were purchased?

Thanks...
