I read somewhere that todays 7200 HDs does not need the ATA 100 to run at its full capacity.
So, ATA 66 is enough to hold a fast 7200 rpm HD or it should be considered a bottleneck ?
I´m asking this because my mobo does not have ATA 100 conector (only ATA 66) but I need a fast HD...

Regards, Ben.

The ata66/100/133 is only for burst readings of the HD. It does not mean that the HD will be reading in that mode in a sustained way. The performance will be almost the same.

So the bottom line is that your HD will work just great, and your performance will be almost identical if that HD is working in ata66 or ata100 mode.

Thanks 4824, that seems to simplify everything!

But I was wandering... What should be a good choice of HD for my ASUS A7V ?

Anybody?

Thanks in advance, Ben.

Yes, I also agree. The new Maxtors are very well rated by the magazines that did some new HD benchmarking tests recently.
