On a K7T PRO2-A is there a big difference between ATA 33 and ATA 66?

Nope not in performance since only a few HDs are able to burst more than 33mb/s. But there is nothing wrong in buying a mobo cabable of ATA66.

Its really up to you! The performance rating is visible but not very great. But buy a mobo which will support it so that it is ready for future exansions, or incase you need to. But if I was you then go for the ATA66 because I am running ATA100 hard drive on my PC and it is worth it! It is speedy and well its just good!

Good Luck,

SKY.

Supported transfer modes:

K7T Pro: ATA33 & ATA66
K7T Pro 2: ATA33 & ATA66
K7T Pro 2A: ATA33 & ATA66 & ATA100

According to Anand, the ATA100 capable 'B' version of the southbridge used, among others, on the Pro 2A is up to par performance wise with the Intel solutions, whilst the ATA66 'A' version performed much slower than the competition. So wether or not ATA100 is something you need or not, the Pro 2A will give you better performance simply cause it has a better of the UDMA protocol.

I already ordered an MSI K7T PRO2-A a couple of days ago. I'm just wondering if I should use my ATA 33 or ATA 66 HD.

Will I see a difference if I have an ATA100 device (IBM 75GXP HD) and an ATA33 device (Pioneer 16X DVD) on the same channel? Will my ATA100 device run at ATA33 or will it switch off between the 2 depending on which device is running at the time?

You will not be able to notice or feel any speed improvement when using a HD in atat33 vs. ata66 mode. The only way to really know if it is working in ata66 mode is to do some benchmark tests like HDTach.
