where the heck r all the ata133 drives? only maxtor has 1 out i think. this is pathetic to have a technology that is basically useless. i mean by the time the ata133 HDs come out we'll have to get new mobos cuz the "hammer" is hitting the last nail into previous setups. and when is a good P4 board gonna come out with ata133 too???:disgust:

give me a break, 99% of the time you can't even tell the difference between ATA66 and ATA100.

so wut ru saying? that i should hose the idea of going ata133??? i mean thats the only reason i'd upgrade to a KT333 board... certainly not 4 the usb2 and certainly not for 333MHz ram speed that can't even be used with current xp or future thoroughbred chips. the ata133 was gonna be the deciding factor so if ur telling me that its futile to get a kt333 board because the performance gain for the HDs is minimal then i'm a sad boy:(

Maxtor created ATA133, and they are the only company that has or has planned support for it. All the others are waiting for serial ATA later in the year. ATA133 performance performance increase will be minimal, certainly not perceptible.

I think the only useful spec of ATA-133 is support for the 160Gb drive.

You're a sad, sad boy.

Transfer scores from storagereview.com:

Western Digital Caviar WD1200BB (120 GB ATA-100) - 49.0 MB/s
Western Digital Caviar WD1200JB (120 GB ATA-100) - 48.8 MB/s
IBM Deskstar 120GXP (120 GB ATA-100) - 47.8 MB/s
Samsung SpinPoint P40 (80 GB ATA-100) - 43.4 MB/s
Seagate Barracuda ATA IV (80 GB ATA-100) - 42.2 MB/s
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus D740X (80 GB ATA-133) - 41.7 MB/s

Do you see scores higher than 66MB/s there, much less 100?

It is very well proven that ATA66 is pretty much were the 7200 RPM drives top out. The extra "speed" of ATA100 or ATA133 is only in the way that the drive transfers buffered data... real time reads still only occur at roughly ATA66 speeds.

The cache size, and rotational speed and access times of the drive are a hell of a lot more important than the ATA rating of a drive or motherboard.

If you want faster disk drives then go blow a wad of cash on 10K SCSI2.

ATA/133 is a freaking joke.. I couldn't even care less if i had ATA/100

to tell you the truth, I wouldn't even care if i was still on ATA/33.. that would be fine with me.. the UATA is like one of the biggest scams ever to try and get people to upgrade.. it's like totally irrelevant on performance charts.. most important thing is spindle speed.. (RPM)

That should read, "15k u160 SCSI", if you don't mind. 10k SCSI2's are ancient history.

ok so we established that i'm a sad boy and that ata 133 is not worth an upgrade... altogether a pretty productive day if u ask me:D
