I got a new mobo and set it up, then realized that I installed my Promise ATA 100 card into a board that supports it already. My hd is the only thing on the card. My cdr and cd are both ATA-66 and I have one on each IDE. Am I losing or gaining anything with this config? The only other way I can see is to put the cds on one channel and the hd on the other. What do you think?

I don't think it really matters how you set up your CD drives, but I think I would connect the HD directly to the mobo on its own chain.

Welcome to AnandTech, dysangel.
You don't need that card with the newer boards--unless you want to run more than 4 ide devices. If you don't plan on using it, you should head over to the trading forum and offer it, might as well make a few bucks on it. If you're not going to use it, you've got the right idea, putting your hd on the primary and the cd's on the secondary buses.
