ATA-100 cables, backwards compatible?

Will they work if, say, i just wanna hook up my cdrom and burner and dvd etc.??

Should work fine, far as I know. I have used ATA-66 cables and they were backwards compatible, so I'm sure ATA-100 cables are, too.

I think that there is a difference in the cables - the ATA66 and 33 cables are 40 pin while the ATA100 and 133 are 80 pin. I think that might create a little problem but I am not sure. If you are going to try to use the ATA100 cables on an ATA33 device, make sure that you are only running ATA33 devices - don't try to run a hard drive at 100 AND a 33 device.

I am not recommending that you use the ATA100 cables - for the cost of an ATA66 cable (about $4 US) - mostly because I am not sure that the device will act predictably.

In short, use an ATA66/33 cable, and then you have NOTHING to worry about.

I know that they are backwards compatible, but I think you have to make certain the correct end is plugged into the motherboard controller, that the other end is master (or Cable Select), and the middle is slave. Good luck.
